The UAE-backed Giants Forces arrested a journalist from his home in the city of Mokha and a community activist in the city of Hays, south of Al Hudaydah Governorate, western Yemen, on Monday.
Local sources told "Yemeni Youth Net" that "the forces of the Seventh Brigade, led by Ali Al-Kanini, arrested activist Abdullah Kreih, on Monday evening, from his home in the city of Mokha."
She added, "The arrest of Kazeh, who was a member of the brigade, came hours after the arrest of journalist Hossam Bakri, due to his criticism of the imposition of restrictions on sporting events."
Members of the Seventh Giants Brigade also arrested journalist Hossam Bakri, a correspondent for Yemen Today Channel, from the main street in the city of Hays.
The sources reported that "the arrest was due to a post on his Facebook page in which he criticized the decision to ban sports activities during the month of Ramadan, under the pretext of combating public breaking of the fast."
Journalist Wadih Atta, who hails from Al Hudaydah Governorate, commented, “The leader supported by Abu Zar’ah Al-Mahrami (a member of the Yemeni Presidential Council) Ali Kanini (the commander of the Seventh Brigade) declares himself the ruler by the command of God of the Emirate of Hays, south of Al Hudaydah,” as he put it.
"(Ali Kanini) continues his campaign of violations against opponents of his oppressive policy," he said in a post on Facebook, noting that "the Seventh Giants Brigade Security Prison, which previously witnessed the death of the young man Yasser Alian under torture, has been transformed into (Abu Ghraib)."
In this regard, activist Ammar Al-Ahdal considered - in a post on Facebook - that "the arrest of journalist Hussam Bakri because of this post - sharing the journalist's post - means that the city of Hays is no longer safe, in light of the rule by force of arms, and the silencing of everyone who criticizes them."
