The International Organization for Migration announced today, Friday, the loss of 186 migrants after four boats capsized off the coast of Yemen and Djibouti.
"IOM is investigating deeply worrying reports of 186 people missing after four migrant boats capsized off the coast of Yemen and Djibouti last night," the organization said in an initial statement on its X platform.
The organization confirmed that it will work with the authorities to take urgent measures to save lives.
The organization indicated in its statement that the migration route between the Horn of Africa and Yemen claimed the lives of 558 people in 2024.

Every year, tens of thousands of African migrants, mostly from Ethiopia and Somalia, enter Yemen by sea to reach Saudi Arabia, fleeing conflicts or natural disasters, or seeking better living opportunities, while others who are stranded are forced to return to their countries through dangerous journeys.
