Real Madrid achieved an important victory over Rayo Vallecano, after Atletico Madrid fell to Getafe and was denied the opportunity to climb to the top at the expense of Barcelona, who had one match less, today, Sunday, in the 27th round of the Spanish Football League.

Real Madrid won 2-1 against its guest, Rayo Vallecano, in the evening at the "Santiago Bernabeu" stadium.

Real Madrid's goals were scored by Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior in the 30th and 34th minutes, while Pedro Diaz scored Rayo Vallecano's only goal in the 45+2 minute.

Real Madrid benefited from Atletico Madrid's (56 points) loss to Getafe (2-1), today as well, to occupy second place in the La Liga standings, with 57 points, equal to the leader Barcelona in the number of points, but behind in goal difference.

Barcelona played one less match, as its match in this round with Osasuna was postponed due to the death of the Catalan team's doctor, Carles Minyaro Garcia.

For its part, Rayo Vallecano's balance froze at 36 points, in seventh place.

Atletico Madrid waste the lead

In a previous match today, Sunday, Getafe turned the tables on its guest, Atletico Madrid, and prevented it from rising to the top of the Spanish Football League by defeating it 2-1.

Atletico thought they had done the hardest when Norwegian striker Alexander Sorloth scored the opening goal in the 75th minute after coming on for Argentine Julian Alvarez, from a penalty kick his team won after consulting the video assistant referee (VAR) to confirm a handball by Omar Aldereta inside the penalty area.

But Getafe had a different opinion, as the referee had barely sent off the other substitute, the Argentine Angel Correa, with a red card after a violent tackle on the Togolese captain, Djene Dakonam (88), when Atletico's net shook a minute later with a surprise goal following a free kick headed by Domingos Duarte and followed by the Uruguayan Mauro Arambarri into the net.

Atletico had barely recovered from the shock of the equaliser when they conceded a second goal through the brilliant Arambarri, who converted a shot from Diego Rico into the net of captain and Slovenian goalkeeper Jan Oblak (90+3), and VAR confirmed it, in his eighth goal in the league this season.

Atletico lost the efforts of the Frenchman Clement Lenglet during the warm-up, and then the Argentine Rodrigo De Paul, who was injured and left the field after the break.
