The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (MASAM) project to clear Yemeni lands of mines announced that its field teams were able to remove 1,058 mines, unexploded ordnance, and explosive devices during the past week, which had been planted by the terrorist Houthi militia in several populated areas.

The project explained, in a statement published on its official website, that the specialized teams were able to remove 1,034 unexploded ordnance and 24 anti-tank mines, noting that the total removed since the launch of the project until February 28, 2025 amounted to 484,401 mines, ammunition and explosive devices.

Masam confirmed that its teams are working at a high pace to clear Yemeni lands, especially agricultural areas, roads and residential areas that the militias have turned into death fields that threaten the lives of civilians.

Yemen is one of the most mine-contaminated countries in the world, as a result of the Houthi militia’s random and widespread planting of mines since the outbreak of the war. These mines have killed and injured thousands of civilians, including women and children, in addition to hindering development and daily life in many areas.

MASAM teams face major challenges due to the density of mines and the Houthis’ innovation of explosive devices in various camouflaged forms, which increases the difficulty of clearance efforts and doubles the risks to the working teams.

The MASAM project continues its noble humanitarian mission of saving the lives of innocent people and securing lands, at a time when appeals from humanitarian and international organizations continue to pressure the Houthis to stop planting mines and respond to peace efforts.
