Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak directed, on Saturday, the leaders of the local authorities in the liberated governorates to double their efforts to alleviate the living suffering of citizens, improve services, and play their role in monitoring the supply and price situation of food commodities and basic materials, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.
This came during phone calls he made with the governors of Hadhramaut, Mabkhout bin Madi, Shabwa, Awad bin Al-Wazir, Lahj, Ahmed Al-Turki, Hodeidah, Al-Hassan Taher, Taiz, Nabil Shamsan, Socotra, Raafat Al-Thaqali, Abyan, Abu Bakr Hussein, and Al-Dhale’e, Ali Saleh Muqbil, according to the Yemeni News Agency “Saba”.
The Prime Minister was informed by the governors about the progress of work, the conditions of citizens, and integration with the government to overcome the existing difficulties and challenges, stressing full understanding of the suffering of citizens and keenness to make every effort within the available capabilities to address them.
He stressed the government's full support for the leadership of the local authorities in their efforts to carry out their duties and responsibilities in these exceptional circumstances, which will positively reflect on the standard of living of citizens and alleviate the suffering caused by the terrorist Houthi militia since its coup against the legitimate authority and its ignition of war.
The Prime Minister stressed the importance of addressing the suffering of citizens and focusing on urgent priorities in service areas related to the daily lives and livelihoods of citizens, in addition to establishing security and stability.
Earlier today, a report by the United Nations World Food Program said that the Yemeni riyal has lost about half of its value in areas controlled by the internationally recognized government, since the Houthi attacks on oil facilities in October 2022, which halted oil and gas exports as a result.
The report explained that the Yemeni riyal reached its lowest level ever at 2,187 Yemeni riyals/US dollar by the end of January 2025, noting that this decline in the value of the riyal primarily led to pushing the prices of local fuel and food to unprecedented levels in January 2025.
A list prepared by Brand Vision, which specializes in monitoring brands, showed that Syria tops the list of the eight worst economies in the world, followed by Sudan and Yemen, in addition to Venezuela, Lebanon, Haiti, Afghanistan, and Argentina, respectively, which means that the Arab countries classified among the poorest in the world constitute 50% of this list.
By 2025, real GDP will remain well below pre-war levels, creating a massive humanitarian catastrophe, with millions on the brink of famine, the report said, noting that while official inflation figures are in the double digits, the living experience is harsher, especially for food and fuel.
