The family of the murdered Sheikh Sadiq Ahmed Abu Shaar, who was killed by a Houthi gang late last December, accused the Houthi militia's interior ministry of colluding with the killers and tampering with evidence in an attempt to cover up the crime and allow the criminals to escape punishment.
This came in a letter sent by "Muhib", the victim's son, to the Attorney General of the militia authorities, and distributed by the victim's family to the media.
In his letter, which Yemen Youth Net has seen the text of, Bashar said that his father “was killed treacherously and unjustly by the director of the Shamila Police Department, Alawi Al-Amir, and his criminal gang,” calling on the Attorney General to achieve justice, reveal the truth, and stop what he called “the farce,” which he said was no longer tolerable.
Accusing the militia's security services of involvement in the crime, the victim's son explained, "The crime was not limited to murder, but extended to cover-up and tampering with evidence, as surveillance camera recordings were confiscated, witnesses were threatened, and the committee charged with the investigation was prevented from reaching clear evidence that would incriminate the killers."
He added: "It reached the point where the body of the martyr was registered in the morgue of Al-Thawra Hospital under an unknown name, as if it were just a number added to the list of victims whose blood was tampered with in broad daylight."
Abu Shaar continued in his message: “Eighty days have passed since the crime and the perpetrators are still at large in Sana’a, roaming around without fear or punishment, while the martyr’s body is still being held in the hospital.”
He pointed out that those arrested "are being treated as guests of the Ministry of Interior in a farce that offends justice and the law," stressing that "this situation is not just negligence or dereliction, but rather clear collusion with the killers and deliberate delay to cover up the crime and allow the criminals to escape punishment."
Abu Shaar called on the Attorney General to “direct the referral of the killers, along with the file, to the competent prosecution, to try the killers urgently in accordance with the law, and to punish everyone involved in concealing evidence and tampering with investigations.” He also called for the formation of an independent investigation committee to recover all evidence that was confiscated or tampered with.
Abu Shaar confirmed at the end of his letter that they will not remain idle in the face of this injustice or any attempt to dilute the issue, threatening to resort to other methods if they are not treated fairly.
He continued: "Either the law is enforced and the killers and those who covered up for them are held accountable, or everyone bears the consequences of this injustice. Justice is not an option, but a right that cannot be compromised."
On Friday, the family and those in solidarity with them held a meeting to address the Houthi militia’s internal procrastination in handing over the investigation file to the Public Prosecution. As a result, the militia pledged to hand over the file and the accused to the Public Prosecution on Saturday, but it did not fulfill its promise later.
On Monday, November 25, Houthi elements led by the so-called "Alawi Saleh Qaid Al-Amir", who was appointed by the Houthi militia as director of the Alaya Police Department in the Shamila area, ambushed the tribal sheikh "Sadiq Abu Shaar", who hails from the Shaar District in Ibb Governorate, in the Dar Salam roundabout south of Sana'a, and opened fire on his car, killing him after looting money and personal belongings that were in his possession.
In an attempt to absorb the anger of the people of the province, the militia reluctantly agreed to include representatives of the people of the province and the relatives of the victim in the investigation committee, which was delayed in starting its work for weeks, due to the militia’s attempts to dilute the case due to the fact that the gang leader “Alawi Al-Amir” and his brother are related by marriage to the Minister of Interior in the militia authorities “Abdul Karim Al-Houthi.”
Although the militia announced the start of the investigation, it refused to arrest the prince and his brother, and released two of the accused after investigating them, while others are still at large.
