"Yemeni Youth" sources revealed the Presidential Council's plan to overthrow the current Prime Minister, Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, as they agreed to appoint a replacement for him, and the changes will include all ministers.

Sources in the Transitional Council told the "From the Other Side" program, which was broadcast on Monday evening on "Yemeni Youth", "that the plan to overthrow the prime minister is ready, and that the head of the Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, agreed with Aidarous Al-Zubaidi on this and nominated Salem bin Braik as an alternative."

The sources added, "Five members of the Presidential Council agreed to overthrow the government and appoint the current Minister of Finance, Salem bin Braik, as a replacement. They are the head of the Council, Al-Alimi, Al-Zubaidi, Abdul Rahman Al-Mahrami, Faraj Al-Bahsani, and Othman Majli."

She reported that "the only objection to the decision to oust the Prime Minister was Abdullah Al-Alimi, while the rest of the council members, namely Sultan Al-Arada and Tariq Saleh, remained neutral."

According to the sources, "the decision is ready and awaits the green light from Saudi Arabia, or the head of the Supreme Leadership Council, supported by the majority, may dare to overthrow the prime minister."

Ben Mubarak's change plan

The Chairman of the Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, and the member of the presidency, Eid Ross Al-Zubaidi, the Chairman of the Transitional Council, prepared a plan to change the Prime Minister, Ahmed bin Mubarak, who visited the United States and chaired the international ministerial meeting on January 20 to support the Yemeni government politically and economically, which was held in New York.

According to the "From the End" program, the plan to overthrow the government - which was appointed in February 2024 - begins with a mission to convince foreign ambassadors of the futility of its continuation by arranging meetings with leaders in the Transitional Council who are part of the Presidential Council.

Both members of the Presidential Council, Al-Zubaidi and Al-Mahrami, met separately on Sunday with the US Ambassador to Yemen, Stephen Fagin, in Riyadh.

According to the official website of the Transitional Council, Al-Zubaidi discussed with the American ambassador "the worsening economic crisis that the country is experiencing and the government's failure to assume its responsibilities towards citizens, and in this regard."

Within the Presidential Council’s plan to change the government - according to the “From the End” program - is to summon the Reconciliation and Consultation Committee to Riyadh, which is what happened last Sunday, in order to bring about the change within the framework of a national discussion, in which Nafoud Al-Alimi and Al-Zubaidi will be present and there will be no objection.

The decision to oust Prime Minister Bin Mubarak was previously discussed, and the ambassadors of the five countries in Yemen were prevented, asking for a chance to combat corruption and implement administrative reform. It was agreed to change some ministers, but this did not happen.

The presenter of the program "From the Other Side", Abdullah Dobla, commented, "The most prominent reason for changing the government is the lack of harmony between the Prime Minister, Ben Mubarak, who is an ambitious politician, and the head of the Presidential Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, who wants to overthrow him because of his personal need for a submissive alternative."

He added, "The early pressure of the Transitional Council to change "Bin Mubarak" and the recent collapse of services in Aden with a complete power outage of the government gave Al-Alimi an opportunity to hide behind them and present them as justifications for the failure to change the government."

Differences between Alimi and the Prime Minister

The idea of overthrowing Prime Minister Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak has escalated in recent days with the collapse of electricity service in the temporary capital city of Aden, which coincided with his visit with a government delegation to the United States, and the holding of an international ministerial meeting to support his government politically and financially.

Many indications have emerged about disagreements between the Presidential Council, the government and the Prime Minister, who according to identical sources is being attacked with the aim of overthrowing him. Minister of Civil Service Abdul Nasser Al-Wali, who accompanied the Prime Minister on his visit to the United States, said, "There is a systematic smear campaign that culminated in a complete power outage in Aden to incite the people against the Prime Minister and the government."

Ben Mubarak, who presented the government's plan for 2025-2026 to achieve economic recovery at an international ministerial meeting in New York, faces dissatisfaction from President Rashad Al-Alimi and a number of members of the Presidential Council, and this has previously appeared in public disagreements over the past months.

According to identical sources, "the disagreements between the Presidency Council and the Prime Minister began after he withheld a large portion of the budgets allocated to the offices of the Presidency Council members and a number of ministries and institutions, especially those sent abroad."

In early January, the government revealed that The investigation began into 20 cases of financial corruption in 7 government agencies, with a total of more than 1 billion, 720 million and 679 thousand US dollars. Bin Mubarak considered that “combating corruption and enhancing transparency represent one of the main paths of the comprehensive reform program.”

On December 4, a government source denied the existence of differences between the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, and the Prime Minister, Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, and described the talk about this as “false news and baseless allegations,” according to what was reported by the Saba Agency.

This denial coincided with news of escalating disagreements. Government and presidential sources had told the “Yemeni Youth” channel that the disagreements between Al-Alimi and Bin Mubarak came as a result of the latter stopping the disbursement of financial amounts approved by the Chairman of the Leadership Council from the government budget under the name of “operational budget” for him.
