The Media Freedom Observatory announced the documentation of 9 cases of violations against media freedoms in Yemen during the past month.
The observatory said in a recent report that it documented 9 cases of violations against media freedoms in Yemen during the month of January, which varied between six cases of interrogation and trial of journalists on the basis of their media activity, two cases of assault, and one case of arrest.
The report explained that the arrest was carried out by the Houthi militia against journalist Hamdi Doublah, director of the news department at the Houthi version of Al-Thawra newspaper, at the Al-Sabah checkpoint west of Sana’a, while he was returning from Hodeidah, where he was assaulted and transferred to the security and intelligence prison in Sana’a, before he was later released.
The Media Observatory indicated that 5 of the violations monitored last month were committed by the recognized government and its affiliated parties, while the Houthi group committed two violations, and the same number were committed by influential people.
The violations recorded last January were distributed among 4 governorates, led by Shabwa with 4 violations, followed by Marib and Sana’a (two violations in each), and one case in Taiz, according to the observatory.
