Khaled Qamata was killed by gunmen in Yafa

A leader in the Security Belt Forces of the UAE-backed Transitional Council was killed and five other individuals were injured in clashes with gunmen in Lahj Governorate (southern Yemen).

Local sources said that armed clashes broke out late Wednesday evening between a military campaign from the Security Belt Forces and gunmen led by Ali Yahya Harara who were entrenched in one of the valleys of the Al-Had area in Yafa.

The sources added that a tribal mediation intervened between the two sides and quelled the clashes in exchange for the wanted men surrendering themselves and placing them in the "Rusd" prison.

The sources explained that a dispute broke out between the campaign leadership and the wanted men when they arrived in the Labous area, where Khaled Qamata, the commander of the emergency forces in the security belt in Yafa, insisted on transferring them to Lahj, while the wanted men insisted on the mediation committee’s proposal to hand them over to “Rasd” prison, and second clashes broke out between the two sides, resulting in the death of “Qamata” and the injury of others.

The sources indicated that the clashes left, in addition to the death of "Al-Qamata", five wounded from the Security Belt Forces and wounded - the number of which is unknown - among the militants.
