The UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, stressed the need to avoid a resumption of a full-scale war in Yemen, asserting that the conflict would not be in the interest of any party.
This came in a statement from his office in Amman at the conclusion of his visit to Brussels, during which he briefed the European Union's Political and Security Committee on the latest developments in Yemen and his ongoing efforts to support the peace process.
According to the statement, during his visit, UN envoy Grundberg held constructive meetings with senior European Union officials, including EU Special Representative for the Gulf, Luigi Di Maio. Discussions focused on the latest political and military developments in the country and the region, as well as UN efforts to pave the way for a peaceful solution.
"After ten years of conflict in Yemen, it has become clear that achieving stability and peace in Yemen is an urgent necessity, not only for the Yemenis, but for the security and stability of the region," Grundberg said.
He added, "The resumption of a comprehensive war in Yemen is not in the interest of any party, and efforts must be made to avoid it."
The envoy pointed out that the path to de-escalation lies through diplomacy based on dialogue and mutual commitment, emphasizing the need for genuine engagement from all parties, with continued international and regional support.
UN envoy Hans Grundberg stressed, "It is imperative that the international community continue to take unified action to ensure a peaceful and sustainable solution for the Yemeni people."
He added, "I am deeply grateful for the European Union's steadfast and enduring commitment to Yemen, to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people. Its continued support is crucial in our shared quest for peace."
Grundberg affirmed his commitment to further strengthening our partnership for the benefit of the Yemeni people in their pursuit of peace.
