A recent international report predicts that the number of internally displaced persons in Yemen will rise to more than 5.1 million, an increase of 340,000 people this year, amid the ongoing conflict and deteriorating economic conditions in the country.
This came in a recent report by the Danish Refugee Council ( DRC ) on "Global Displacement Forecasts for 2025," which covers 27 countries around the world, including Yemen.
The council said, "Yemen is expected to witness an additional 340,000 internally displaced persons during the current year 2025," and the number of additional displaced persons is expected to increase by about 400,000 people by the end of 2026.
He added that Yemen "has the fifth largest internal displacement crisis in the world, with an estimated 4.8 million displaced people, most of them women and children, suffering from repeated and prolonged displacement with limited prospects for return."
The Danish Council noted that the humanitarian situation in Yemen remains dire. "According to the Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan, 19.5 million people will require humanitarian assistance and protection services in 2025. More than 17 million people, nearly half the country's population, will suffer from severe food insecurity, including 5 million who will face emergency-level food insecurity."
