A human rights organization called on the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Sana'a to open a transparent investigation into the case of the liquidation of Sheikh "Sadiq Bashar" by an armed gang led by a security official in the Houthi militia authorities.

The Monitoring Organization for Rights and Freedoms said in a statement on its Facebook account on Wednesday that it had received a report from the family of Sheikh (Sadiq Ahmed Saleh Bashar, 51 years old), who lives in the Dar Salam neighborhood in the capital Sana’a, stating that he had been subjected to assassination and extrajudicial killing.

She added that the incident occurred at 1:00 a.m. on Monday, November 25, 2024, at the hands of an armed Houthi gang affiliated with "the so-called Alawi Saleh Amir," who is impersonating the director of the Alaya Department in the Shamila area of the capital, Sana'a.

The organization stated that the gang removed all surveillance cameras from the crime scene, moved the victim's car to the Shamila police station yard, and began to hide the evidence of the crime.

She added, "On Tuesday, four members of the gang were released from the police station, so that this crime remains unpunished, as is the Houthi group's approach in all similar crimes committed by Houthi leaders or their loyalists."

While the organization condemned the crime, it stressed that it will not pass and its perpetrators will not escape punishment in accordance with Yemeni laws and international conventions, calling on all local and international organizations to condemn this crime.

On Monday, Houthi elements led by the so-called "Alawi Saleh Qaid Al-Amir", who was appointed by the Houthi militia as director of the Alaya Police Department in the Shamila area, ambushed the tribal sheikh "Sadiq Bashar", one of the sheikhs of the Ash-Sha'ar District in Ibb Governorate, in the Dar Salam roundabout south of Sana'a, and shot him dead.

Following this, tribesmen from Ibb governorate set up tents in Al-Sab’een Square and launched an open sit-in to demand the arrest and punishment of the perpetrators, amid accusations that the militia was complicit with the killers and trying to dilute the case, which had become a public opinion issue.
