During the past few days, the Houthi militia carried out a new kidnapping campaign in the capital, Sana'a, targeting former Yemeni employees who worked in foreign and Arab embassies.

Press and media sources said that the campaign, which began last Sunday, continued during the last few days - coinciding with the visit of the UN envoy - and targeted dozens of former employees who worked in security and diplomatic guarding in a number of embassies, including the American, British and Saudi embassies.

She added that the Houthi campaigns were carried out in a brutal manner, as the houses were raided by masked elements and female elements "Zainabiyat" after surrounding them with armored vehicles and crews, and they kidnapped former employees and looted some of their personal belongings.

The sources explained that the militia took the kidnapped people to an unknown location, and they were not allowed to communicate.

Yemeni Youth sources revealed a few days ago that the former employee at the US embassy, Riyadh Al-Saeedi, was kidnapped after his home was surrounded and stormed in the capital, Sana'a.

This is the second large-scale campaign launched by the Houthi militia within months against employees of relief agencies and diplomatic missions, after the campaign last June that targeted dozens, including UN employees.

The new campaign coincided with the visit of UN envoy Hans Grundberg to Sanaa, whose office said at the end of his visit on Thursday that he had strongly urged the Houthis in all his discussions to release detained individuals from the United Nations, non-governmental organizations, civil society and diplomatic missions immediately and unconditionally.

Grundberg stressed that arbitrary arrests are unacceptable and constitute a violation of international law, adding: "We must protect the role of civil society and humanitarian workers. They make vital contributions to achieving peace and rebuilding Yemen."
