Iran notified the UN Security Council on Monday of its complaint against US President Donald Trump and other officials, following statements linking Houthi attacks in the Red Sea to Iranian support and direct instructions from Tehran.
In a letter to the Security Council, Iran said that Trump and other US officials had made "reckless and provocative" statements, made "baseless accusations" and threatened to use force against Tehran.
Iranian Ambassador to the United Nations Amir Saeed Iravani wrote, "Iran strongly and categorically rejects any accusation of violating Security Council resolutions related to the arms embargo in Yemen, or of engaging in any destabilizing activities in the region."
The letter emphasized that "the Houthis in Yemen make their decisions and actions independently," describing the statements of US officials as "a desperate move to justify the aggression against Yemen."
Trump's threats
US President Donald Trump said on Monday that Iran would be held responsible for any further attacks, following US airstrikes on Houthi sites in Yemen.
Trump explained via Truth Social, "From now on, every shot fired by the Houthis will be viewed as having come from the weapons and command of Iran, and Iran will be held responsible and face severe consequences."
The US president added that "hundreds of attacks carried out by the Houthis are planned by Iran," noting that Tehran dictates to the Houthis the most basic "instructions and directives" and provides them with "weapons, money, advanced military equipment, and intelligence."
Trump administration officials have previously leveled numerous accusations against Iran of supporting the Houthis, suggesting that US strikes on the group's sites in Yemen send a message to Tehran.
US National Security Advisor Michael Waltz announced on Sunday that US airstrikes carried out Saturday night on Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen killed "several" of their leaders. He also warned Iran to cease supporting the group and its naval attacks.
For the fourth consecutive day, the United States continues to launch airstrikes on Houthi positions in Yemen, as part of an ongoing campaign that began last Saturday. The campaign aims to halt Houthi attacks in the Red Sea that threaten international shipping.
