During its meeting on Sunday in the interim capital, Aden, chaired by Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, the Supreme Energy Council approved a number of decisions and measures aimed at addressing the electricity situation in Aden and the liberated governorates, in preparation for meeting the demands of next summer.
The Council reviewed plans to secure electricity, which include carrying out maintenance work on stations, providing the necessary fuel, improving transportation networks, enhancing financial collection, and reducing losses, ensuring the stability of the electricity system and alleviating citizens' suffering.
According to Saba News Agency, the council affirmed its commitment to working with the Presidential Leadership Council to find sustainable solutions to the electricity crisis, away from temporary solutions. It also emphasized the importance of continuing financial and administrative reforms in the electricity sector and enhancing transparency and accountability.
The meeting approved the formation of a financial and technical committee comprising representatives from the Ministries of Finance and Electricity, the General Electricity Corporation, the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, and local authorities. The committee will oversee the financial accounting process for energy fuel and propose effective mechanisms to ensure sustainable financing. The council also approved a mechanism to ensure the flow of fuel to the President's gas station in Aden and to meet the basic needs of electricity projects during the summer of 2025.
The Prime Minister directed urgent maintenance work to be carried out at the President's Gas Power Plant, the development of timetables for the maintenance of all power plants, and the development of rapid solutions to urgent problems in the electricity system.
He also stressed that the decisions to cancel purchased energy contracts and adopt fuel procurement through tenders will contribute to reducing unnecessary expenditures and enhancing the financial sustainability of the electricity sector.
