A UN organization said on Wednesday that the ongoing conflict in Yemen for ten years has caused 2.4 million children to drop out of school.
This came in a statement by the International Organization for Migration, coinciding with the International Children's Day, which falls on November 20 of each year.
"In Yemen, more than 2.4 million children are out of school, with nearly a million children dropping out since the conflict escalated in March 2015," the organization added.
She added that the United Nations estimates that more than 2,000 schools have been damaged or reused since the beginning of the conflict, putting 8 million school-age children at risk of leaving the education system, including more than a million displaced children.
IOM renewed its commitment to supporting the right to education in vulnerable communities affected by the conflict in Yemen, noting that it has rehabilitated and built 32 classrooms and temporary learning spaces for 24 schools in Marib, benefiting more than 28,000 students, each of whom also received a school bag, with funding from the European Union’s humanitarian aid.
