The office of the UN Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, announced on Wednesday the conclusion of a series of meetings with the Yemeni government that focused on planning for managing the ceasefire operations and its future security arrangements.
The office explained in a statement published on its website that the meetings, which were held in the Jordanian capital, Amman, last week, brought together representatives of the Yemeni government within the framework of the Military Coordination Committee. The discussion was moderated by international experts in the field of ceasefire, who reviewed global experiences and discussed the extent to which they could be applied to achieve a comprehensive agreement in Yemen.
The statement indicated that the participants received detailed briefings on the mechanisms for monitoring the ceasefire and verifying compliance with it, in addition to the lessons learned from the previous truce in Yemen, stressing that these meetings constituted an important platform for exchanging ideas on the types of ceasefires and the mechanisms for designing and planning them.
UN envoy Hans Grundberg stressed that achieving a comprehensive ceasefire is a crucial step in building confidence and paving the way for a sustainable solution to the conflict in Yemen.
For his part, the military advisor to the UN envoy, Anthony Hayward, pointed out the importance of these discussions in addressing the unique priorities of the Yemeni context, stressing that effective advance planning for a ceasefire is an essential element to ensure peace and stability in the country.
These meetings are a continuation of the workshops organized by the Office of the UN Envoy throughout the year, as part of ongoing efforts to support the Military Coordination Committee and enhance the chances of achieving peace in Yemen.
