Sana'a: Yemen Youth Net
The Houthi-affiliated wing of the General People's Congress in Sana'a called on its supporters not to participate in the popular celebrations of the glorious September 26 Revolution, whose 62nd anniversary falls tomorrow, Thursday.
A statement issued by the party's secretariat in Sana'a said that it affirms its keenness on what it called "the unity and cohesion of the internal front and its rejection of any infringement on the state of stability and public tranquility."
The statement called on all members of the Congress and their supporters to "not be drawn into suspicious propaganda, calls and gatherings that will not benefit anyone," in an implicit message to popular calls for celebrations of the revolution's anniversary.
In line with the Houthi narrative that there is a conspiracy threatening security and stability, the conference statement stressed that celebrations of the Yemeni revolution holidays must be held in accordance with what is stipulated by law and not "in the streets and damaging public and private property."
The party announced its disavowal of anyone "who carries out acts that undermine security and stability under any pretext," adding that it "does not represent the General People's Congress, but rather represents itself."
Over the past few days, the Houthi militia has led a wide-scale arrest campaign that has targeted leaders of the General People's Congress, activists, journalists, academics, and social figures, against the backdrop of their calls to celebrate the glorious September 26 Revolution.
