UNHCR, Interior Ministry discuss establishing database for refugees in Yemen

On Sunday, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for the Civil Services Sector, Major General Abdul Majeed Al-Ameri, discussed with a delegation from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, headed by the Deputy Representative for Protection, Armin Yadjarin, ways to enhance cooperation to establish a comprehensive system and database for refugees in Yemen, with the aim of improving the management of their affairs and providing them with the necessary support.
Major General Al Ameri stressed the importance of providing the General Administration of Refugee Affairs at the Immigration, Passports and Nationality Authority with technical and logistical support, noting that the database will contribute to organizing the process of registering refugees and providing their services more efficiently, despite the challenges facing the country.
According to Saba News Agency, Al-Amiri praised the efforts of the Commission in supporting refugees, stressing the readiness of the Ministry and the Authority to overcome the difficulties facing the work of the organization and enhance joint coordination to achieve the desired goals.
For his part, the Undersecretary of the Immigration, Passports and Nationality Authority, Major General Abdul-Jabbar Salem, reviewed the role played by the Commission in supporting the General Administration of Refugee Affairs before the Authority moved to the interim capital, Aden, stressing the importance of restoring the previous pace of cooperation in a way that enhances the provision of services to refugees.
The UNHCR delegation welcomed the comments submitted, expressing its commitment to continuous coordination with the relevant authorities to work on improving support mechanisms and providing an integrated database that serves refugee affairs in Yemen.
