Yemen Youth - Follow-ups
Today, Sunday, the local authority in Marib Governorate appealed to donors to take urgent action to confront the effects of the severe cold on the displaced people in the camps, especially children and the elderly, in light of the shortage of shelter materials and the dilapidation of the camps.
This was stated by the governor's deputy, Abd Rabbuh Miftah, during his meeting in Marib with the new director of the UNHCR office in the governorate, Shaksham Sheho, according to the official news agency "Saba".
The meeting discussed the humanitarian conditions of the displaced, the urgent need to raise the level of humanitarian interventions provided by the Commission, and the challenges facing the local authority in providing basic services to the displaced in the governorate.
During the meeting, Dr. Muftah stressed the importance of the role of the Commission, which leads the Shelter and Housing Sub-Cluster, in mobilizing support and encouraging organizations to redouble their efforts to meet the needs of the displaced and the host community.
The Undersecretary pointed out that Marib hosts more than 62% of the total displaced people in Yemen, distributed across more than 204 camps, which makes it in dire need of expanding the scope of humanitarian interventions and providing health, education, water and sanitation services.
He stressed the local authority's commitment to facilitating the work of international organizations and removing obstacles to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid.
For his part, the new director of the UNHCR office appreciated the close cooperation from the local authority, stressing his determination to strengthen the partnership and continuous coordination to ensure the success of humanitarian missions and meet the growing needs of the displaced.
At the end of the meeting, Dr. Miftah honored the former director of the UNHCR office, Mamoun Abu Arqoub, with the governorate’s shield, in appreciation of his distinguished efforts in supporting the displaced and promoting humanitarian work during his tenure.
