Doctors Without Borders International announced the end of its support for the cholera treatment center in the interim capital, Aden (southern Yemen), with the decline in cases of the epidemic that has spread significantly in recent months.
The organization said in a statement on Facebook that, given the significant positive decrease in the number of cholera and watery diarrhea cases, "the organization announces the end of its support for the cholera treatment center at Al-Sadaka Hospital in Aden, and the handover of the center to the Ministry of Health and Population."
She added, "To ensure the continuity and readiness of the center, MSF donated medicines, medical supplies, and logistical materials to the cholera treatment center at Al-Sadaqa Hospital."
She explained that during the period between April and August 2024, it contributed to treating 5,770 patients who were suffering from cholera symptoms in Aden Governorate.
She pointed out that the organization's teams remain committed to providing basic humanitarian assistance to patients and residents in the city of Aden and throughout Yemen.
It is noteworthy that Doctors Without Borders had announced about a month ago its intention to end its services for treating violence-related injuries in the interim capital, Aden (southern Yemen), by the end of this year, “due to the decrease in cases of violence-related injuries in Aden.”
The international organization said in a statement that it will cooperate with the Ministry of Public Health and Population to assess current medical needs to ensure new activities in Aden Governorate after 2024 based on the results of the assessment.
