Bahrain won the Gulf Cup (Gulf 26) for the second time in its history, after turning a one-goal deficit against Oman in the first half into a 2-1 victory in the final match held in Kuwait on Saturday.
Abdulrahman Al-Mushairi put Oman ahead with a header in the 16th minute, but Mohammed Marhoon gave away a penalty and converted it brilliantly himself in the 78th minute.
He scored the winning goal two minutes later, when he penetrated the right side of Oman goalkeeper Faiz Al-Rashidi’s goal and sent a cross, which defender Mohammed Al-Musalmi mistakenly turned into his own net, giving Bahrain its second title after 2019.
