UEFA has confirmed the decision to disallow Alvarez's penalty kick during Atletico Madrid's Champions League loss to Real Madrid on Wednesday.
"Although the contact incident was minor, the player touched the ball with his standing foot before kicking it, as shown in the attached video," UEFA said in a statement .
For the first time, this video from UEFA shows Atletico Madrid's Julian Alvarez taking the penalty kick.

He continued: "Under the current rule (Laws of the Game, Law 14.1), the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) should have informed the referee that the goal was disallowed."
UEFA added: "UEFA will enter into discussions with FIFA and the International Football Association Board (IFAB) to determine whether the rule should be reviewed in cases where a double touch is clearly unintentional.
The match ended with Real Madrid advancing to the quarter-finals after defeating their neighbors, Atletico Madrid, 4-2 on penalties. Alvarez's penalty kick was initially awarded, but the referee disallowed it after consulting VAR.
