For its part, the family of American Ryan Corbett, who was arrested by the Taliban in 2022, confirmed his release, expressing their "deep gratitude" for his return.

"Our hearts are filled today with gratitude and thanks to God for keeping Ryan alive and bringing him home after the hardest and darkest 894 days of our lives," the family said on their website.

The American media identified the second American detainee who was released as William McEntee, noting that not much is known about what he was doing in Afghanistan and that his family asked the American government to maintain privacy in his case.

In turn, the Taliban government described the prisoner exchange process on Tuesday as "a good example of resolving outstanding issues through dialogue," expressing thanks for "the active role played by the sisterly State of Qatar in this regard."

She added, "The Islamic Emirate views positively these American moves that contribute to normalizing and expanding relations between the two countries."

The Taliban authorities have repeatedly stressed that they want good relations with all countries since returning to power in 2021.
