Houthi prisons... Assad prisons
Our Writers| 12 December, 2024 - 5:23 PM
The Houthi detention centers in Yemen are no different from the detention centers of his cousin Assad in Syria, except for some procedures. There are terrifying details of Yemeni abductees that are similar to the details we saw of Syrian abductees, such as that young Syrian man who came out with amnesia, or of Yemeni detainees who died in Houthi detention centers from torture. I will mention some cases, which perhaps only a few have heard of.
Have you ever heard of "Mohammed Al-Hajj"? Well, I will mention some details about him: Mohammed Al-Hajj, a construction worker, over thirty years old and unmarried, because he is busy supporting his mother and sisters after the death of his father. In March 2018, Mohammed Al-Hajj was about to finish building the last floor of a house near the ghee and soap factory west of Taiz. He was worried about the end of the work, no one invited him to build, which meant that he would live an idle time without getting any financial return to support his family. While he was in this state, Abu Ali Al-Shami arrived with his companions. Mohammed Al-Hajj thought that the person who came was one of the patriarchs who build villas, he was just a vagrant who did not know anything about the events and their nature, despite the slogans of the scream that decorated the car that the pompous man came in.
Do you want to know what happened next?!
The Houthi leader, known as Abu Ali al-Shami, kidnapped the Yemeni hard-liner, Mohammed al-Hajj, to the notorious al-Saleh prison, at the time. Months later, the Houthis released Mohammed al-Hajj paralyzed. The young man who used to move for his mother and sisters, was paralyzed. He would be carried to the corner of his room as a burden to live in a crippled body in the corner, collapsing in tears whenever his mother moved to beg benefactors for a packet of medicine!
Is there a difference between what the Houthis are doing and what Assad is doing?
It doesn't matter..
In Houthi detention centers, detainees die without charges, just as detainees die in Bashar al-Assad’s detention centers. If there is a difference, it is that the Houthis summon the detainee’s family to receive the body, examine the signs of torture on his body, and bury him under pressure.
Do you know Mohammed Al-Tuwaiti? It is not bad to give a brief biography of this citizen who was only 35 years old before he was tortured to death.
The Houthis kidnapped Mohammed Al-Tuwaiti in November 2017. The family learned the details of his kidnapping after being summoned to hand over the body.
A Houthi checkpoint in the city of Damt in Al Dhale’e governorate stopped Mohammed Al Tuwaiti, who was returning to Yarim in Ibb governorate. The family did not know where he was, but it turned out that Mohammed was being brutally tortured to the point that he could not survive. While searching for him, the family found him in the morgue.
Why do we go so far, if the incidents of kidnapping and disappearance of Yemenis are fresh and recent?
Do you remember the hundreds of young men, children and adults who were kidnapped by the Houthis last September?
They have no charge other than their intentions...the intention to celebrate September...this is how the Houthis understood their intentions and kidnapped them without any evidence or justification.
Where is Mohammed Al-Mayahy and his companions? What is the fault of the expatriate who returned to rejoice with his family and you took him to prison? Why do you prevent the release of the sick teacher from your prison while he suffers under your torture outside the prison? How do you sentence to death a technical talent who owned a digital project that you could not seize, like Adnan Al-Harazi? What is the fault of the women: Fatima Al-Arouli, Intisar Al-Hamadi, Al-Madwahi, Sahar Al-Khawlani, and dozens of women kidnapped for their work.
It is also okay to remind you of the story of a girl from Al Hudaydah Governorate, I think you do not know her story. This girl was arrested by the Houthi intelligence services in Al Hudaydah, she received various types of torture, then they transferred her to the capital Sana'a, according to documented testimonies of released female prisoners. The girl from Al Hudaydah was: paralyzed in the central prison in Sana'a.. she lost movement from the severity of the torture.
Do you know her story? It would be nice to summarize it in this line: She was struggling with life's circumstances, with a small project to beautify women, before she found herself accused of spying for enemy countries.
