Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa issued a decision on Sunday to form a committee of seven experts to complete the task of drafting the constitutional declaration that regulates the transitional phase, while sources revealed details of the provisions of the constitutional declaration and that it will include 48 articles.
According to the Syrian presidency, the decision comes "based on the outcomes of the Syrian National Dialogue Conference, with the aim of preparing the legal framework regulating the transitional phase, and based on the aspirations of the Syrian people to build their state on the basis of the rule of law."
According to the decision, the assigned committee will submit its proposal to President Ahmed Al-Sharaa after approving the draft constitutional declaration.
The committee of experts consists of Abdul Hamid Al-Awak, Yasser Al-Huwaish, Ismail Al-Khalfan, Riyan Kahilan, Muhammad Redha Jalkhi, Ahmad Qurabi, and Bahiya Mardini.
The decision did not mention the name of the seven names that will head the committee, but it is clear that the head of the committee will be Abdul Hamid Al-Awak, a former Syrian judge in Al-Hasakah Governorate, who holds a doctorate in constitutional law and works as a lecturer on constitutional law subjects.
Revealing the details of the constitutional declaration
According to what Al Jazeera reported from sources, "the Constitution Drafting Committee in Syria will work on issuing a constitutional declaration that includes 48 articles, stipulating that the President of the Republic must be a Muslim, and the latter will be the Supreme Commander of the Army and Armed Forces."
The sources said, "The President of the Republic will appoint the People's Assembly within 60 days from the date of issuing the constitutional declaration, and will also allow the formation of parties on national bases according to a law to be issued later."
The same sources explained that the Syrian People's Council will include 100 members, and that fair representation of components and competence will be taken into account, noting that the President of the Republic appoints its members by a republican decree, and the Council's term will be two years.
Sharaa had previously announced a roadmap for the country in the next phase after the fall of the Assad regime, including the formation of two committees to choose a mini-parliament and prepare for a national dialogue conference, in addition to forming a comprehensive transitional government.
