Presidents Al-Alimi and Al-Masry stress the importance of the Houthis stopping their attacks in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab

The meeting between the Chairman of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, and the Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, stressed the importance of stopping the attacks launched by the Houthi militia on commercial ships in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab.

The Egyptian presidency said on its website that President Sisi stressed during the meeting with Al-Alimi on the sidelines of the emergency Arab summit on Tuesday, Egypt's steadfast support for the unity, independence and territorial integrity of the Yemeni state, while emphasizing the link between the security and stability of Yemen and Egyptian national security and the security of the Arab region and the Red Sea.

The statement explained that the meeting also discussed ways to restore security and stability in the Bab al-Mandab region, stressing the importance of stopping attacks targeting commercial ships in that region.

He pointed out that the meeting addressed the economic repercussions of these attacks, noting that Egypt lost more than seven billion dollars in Suez Canal revenues during the year 2024 as a result of these attacks.

Regarding efforts to achieve peace, President Sisi affirmed Egypt's support for all efforts aimed at reaching a political solution to the Yemeni crisis, in a way that meets the aspirations of the brotherly Yemeni people and ends their humanitarian suffering, stressing that Egypt has a firm conviction that the Yemeni crisis will not be resolved by the use of force, but rather the focus should be on achieving a peaceful political settlement that leads to a comprehensive and permanent solution, according to the statement.

For his part, President Al-Alimi expressed his thanks for the Egyptian role in restoring stability in Yemen and supporting the Yemeni people, praising Egypt's hosting of thousands of Yemenis who receive ideal treatment from their Egyptian brothers, which reflects the depth of historical relations between the two peoples.
