Four people, including a soldier, were killed and others were injured on Wednesday in clashes that erupted between a security campaign and armed smugglers in Lahj Governorate, southern Yemen.

Local sources reported that the clashes took place near a popular market in the Al-Mudharaba and Ras Al-Ara directorate, and resulted in the death of a person named "Fouad Muhammad Ghanem" and the injury of two others.

For its part, the security campaign, led by Hamdi Shukry, explained that it had monitored the suspicious movements of one of the smugglers and pursued him, but he started shooting at its members when they tried to arrest him, which led to the injury of one of the security men.

The campaign confirmed, in a statement seen by Yemen Youth Net, that it will continue its operations and will not allow the month of Ramadan to be exploited to carry out smuggling operations, stressing that smugglers are mistaken if they believe that the security services will retreat or be lax in performing their duty.

The campaign called on the sheikhs and dignitaries of the region to adhere to previous covenants and agreements to combat smuggling, stressing the importance of solidarity and cooperation to enhance security and stability.

She also urged citizens to cooperate with her and report any suspicious movements or smuggling attempts, stressing that "security is everyone's responsibility."
