As much as the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime in Syria is a factor that would enhance Turkey’s regional influence, given the multiple roles it has played over more than a decade inside Syria, whether politically through its entry into the Astana process in 2017 with the guarantor states, Iran and Russia, or militarily through supporting opposition factions, especially the opposition “National Army,” or through hosting about three million Syrian refugees, the rapid change in the military and political scene after the fall of Assad would impose challenges and responsibilities on it regarding the approach it will choose for its role during the coming period, especially with regard to the nature of its intervention in the transitional process and the possibility of its contribution to its success or failure, in light of the many files that concern Turkey in Syria, foremost among which are the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the situation in the eastern Euphrates.
