Yemeni Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Waed Badhib said that the war sparked by the Houthi militias has caused his country to lose an estimated quarter of a trillion dollars of its national income.

This came in a dialogue session held on Tuesday, as part of the activities of the Fourth Riyadh International Humanitarian Forum on development cooperation and integration and mechanisms for cooperation between donor countries, international and local organizations and the Yemeni government, according to the Yemeni News Agency "Saba".

The Minister of Planning pointed to the challenges facing Yemen in its economic, social, humanitarian and institutional dimensions due to the war sparked by the terrorist Houthi militias.

He explained that the war led to Yemen losing more than half of its national income, amounting to 250 billion dollars, the deterioration of the value of the national currency by about 700 percent, the cumulative inflation rate reaching 183 and the unemployment rate rising to 80 percent.

Badib stressed the importance of enhancing close coordination between regional and international partners with the Yemeni government represented by the Ministry of Planning and through it with central government institutions and local authorities and aligning donor interventions with national priorities.

He pointed out that international and regional support for the country took two paths: humanitarian and developmental and humanitarian interventions together, referring to the government's priorities in achieving development and resilience by developing a short-term plan aimed at halting the deterioration of the economic situation, establishing the foundations for economic development, strengthening governance and the resilience of the private sector.

Badib reviewed the medium-term priorities, which focused on the gains that will be achieved from implementing urgent priorities, which require coordinated efforts with stakeholders, especially from the government, private sector, civil society and international partners.

He pointed out that this would achieve economic recovery, financial and administrative reform, raise economic growth rates, improve indicators of human development and sustainable development, and increase average per capita income.
