The Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, raised a large banner on Saturday on the platform for handing over Israeli prisoners as part of the fifth batch of the exchange deal, and wrote on it, “We are the flood...we are the next day.”

This phrase was written by Al-Qassam on the banner in three languages: Arabic, Hebrew and English, while it carried a picture of the Palestinian flag next to a “fist.”

Al-Qassam's choice of the phrase "We are the next day" came days after news circulated by the Israeli Broadcasting Authority about Israel's acceptance of all or some of Hamas' leaders leaving the Gaza Strip to another country, in light of US President Donald Trump's talk about a proposal to displace Palestinians from Gaza to Egypt, Jordan and other places in the world.

Sign meaning

Regarding the significance of this banner, Ibrahim Al-Madhoun, Director of the Palestinian Media Foundation, said, “Everything issued by Al-Qassam carries calculated political and security messages that reflect the balance of power on the ground.”

He added during his interview with Anadolu: "When Al-Qassam says: We are the flood... and we are the next day, it provides a clear answer to a question that the occupation and its allies have been asking since the first day of the aggression: Who will be in Gaza the next day?"

He explained that the Qassam message came to settle the issue of the "next day", and to answer that it will be for "Hamas, the resistance, and Qassam, which led the battle and remained steadfast despite all attempts to eradicate it."

He continued: "This announcement confirms the failure of the Israeli project that sought to change the political reality in Gaza, and confirms the fact that the occupation did not achieve its goals."

He promised that the re-invocation of the term "flood" at this time, coinciding with the implementation of prisoner exchange operations, is "a reflection of a new equation of conflict in which the resistance proves that it is the most influential in shaping the political and security landscape."

At the international level, this announcement by Al-Qassam comes as a “direct response to calls for displacement and American statements, including the position of (President Donald) Trump, which sought to re-engineer the future of Gaza politically and demographically.”

He pointed out that Al-Qassam is sending them a message saying that "the men of the flood will remain in their land, and will not allow any projects that exceed the will of their people."

The Israeli Broadcasting Authority said on Tuesday: "After the opening of talks on the second phase of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, senior Israeli officials admitted that they are prepared to accept the continued presence of Hamas, but not in the Gaza Strip."

She added that in light of the US President's proposal to deport Palestinians from Gaza to Jordan and Egypt, one of the proposals being discussed between Israel and the US administration is related to the Tunisian model for the Palestine Liberation Organization, "in other words, expelling some or all of the senior Hamas officials from the Gaza Strip," according to the authority.

The Hebrew Authority continued: "In the view of the Israeli leadership, this may constitute a solution to stop the fighting within the framework of negotiations on the second phase of the agreement, without denying Hamas's ability to rule in the Gaza Strip."

The Authority did not clarify whether this offer had been presented to Hamas through mediators, nor did it specify the country to which Hamas leaders could go, while there was no immediate comment from Hamas at the time.

Since January 25, Trump has been promoting a plan to transfer the Palestinians of Gaza to neighboring countries such as Egypt and Jordan, which was rejected by both countries, and was joined by other Arab countries and regional and international organizations.
