The social media application company WhatsApp announced the launch of a feature to convert voice messages into written texts.
The company owned by the Meta Platforms group said that the new feature will be useful when the user is in the middle of noise or moving and cannot hear the voice message.
The TechCrunch website, which specializes in technology topics, indicated that Apple launched a similar feature for its "Message" application, with the update to the operating system of Apple smart devices (iOS 17).
To access the new feature in "WhatsApp", the user needs to go to the application settings and choose the "Conversations" section, then click on the "Convert Voice Message to Text" option, then activate the feature. From this section, the user can choose the desired writing language.
Once the feature is activated, the user can convert the voice message to text by clicking and holding on it and then choosing the "Convert to Text" option. The application will not automatically convert voice messages to texts every time a voice message arrives.
The company said that it will make the new feature available to users around the world in specific languages in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, the languages supported by the feature for iOS devices are determined by the version; if the user is using iOS 16 or later, it supports English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Turkish, Chinese, and Arabic.
If the version is iOS 17 or later, the language base expands to include Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Dutch, Swedish, Arabic, and Thai.
As for devices running Android, it currently supports only English, Portuguese, Spanish, and Russian.
