Aden.. Workshop to review the achievements of the emergency project for integrated urban services

Deputy Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Dr. Nizar Basuhaib, opened on Monday a workshop to review the achievements of the Emergency Project for Integrated Urban Services, Phase II, in the interim capital, Aden.

The project, implemented by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) and supported and funded by the World Bank, aims to improve infrastructure in Yemen.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Basahib stressed the importance of the partnership between the Yemeni government, the World Bank and the United Nations Office, noting that the workshop represents an opportunity to evaluate the impact of implemented projects and discuss ways to improve them.

He also expressed his aspiration to expand cooperation with donors in line with the needs of government sectors and liberated governorates.

For her part, Zaruhi Tokhma, Senior Urban Development Officer at the World Bank, stressed that the project reflects the fruitful cooperation between the Yemeni government and UNEP, praising the joint efforts to support development in Yemen.

In turn, the Country Director of the UNEP office in Yemen, Rehana Zawar, expressed her hope that the project would have a tangible impact on the Yemeni people, appreciating the coordination with ministries and local partners.

The workshop witnessed a review of the project’s achievements in the fields of health, education, roads, energy, sanitation, and solid materials management. A vision was also developed for the priorities of future needs and projects in these sectors.
