Zakat funds collected by the militia from Ibb - Archive
The terrorist Houthi militia has deployed extensive zakat collection teams from citizens in all neighborhoods, cities, and villages of Ibb Governorate (central Yemen), while citizens' complaints of being deprived of this zakat are increasing.
Local sources reported that the Houthi militia has deployed tax collection teams in streets, businesses, and shops to force residents to pay Zakat al-Fitr. These amounts are estimated in advance, and some merchants and vendors say these amounts are extremely unfair and do not rely on financial reports about the business activity in their shops and establishments.
The sources added that the militia also distributed "Zakat al-Fitr" collection coupons to neighborhood leaders and their local members to collect it from citizens under the name "Zakat al-Nufus."
The sources indicated that the coupons contain a bond in the amount of (475), which is the amount that the militia has set for every citizen in the name of zakat this year, and obligates them to pay it, including the needy.
Meanwhile, voices rose among citizens entitled to zakat and aid, accusing the militia of expelling thousands of them for unknown reasons. The militia claimed it relied on data submitted by neighborhood leaders, allegations that were denied by several neighborhood leaders.
The militia, through media activists, has promoted the allocation of large sums of money to distribute in-kind and financial aid to thousands of citizens in the governorate. This is an attempt to cover up widespread criticism of the militia's leaders for collecting billions of riyals in zakat annually from the governorate and depositing it into private accounts in Sana'a.
Over the past few years, numerous protests have taken place in the governorate by beneficiaries of aid after the militias removed their names, or by beneficiaries who did not receive the funds despite their names being included on the beneficiary lists.
