Tihama in the face of the flood disaster... The torrents swept away citizens' homes and farms

The governorates of Hodeidah and Hajjah in Tihama (western Yemen) are witnessing a disaster caused by floods as a result of heavy rains continuing for hours on end on Tuesday-Wednesday night, and it is expected to continue during the coming days.

Residents in Hodeidah told "Yemen Shabab Net", "Heavy rains that lasted for eight hours flooded the streets and entered homes, sweeping away public housing and farms and causing great losses to citizens."

He stated, "The floods swept away homes, nests, and farms in the villages near the flood streams, and there are reports of deaths and missing persons, but no one can be rescued due to the continuing rains and the darkness of the night."

The victims and losses are concentrated in Hodeidah, in the areas of Al-Maraw’a, Al-Mansouriya, and Bayt Al-Faqih, and in the Aflah Al-Sham, Aflah Al-Yemen and Abs districts, and other areas in Hajjah Governorate, according to what local sources reported.

Residents said, "For many years, they have not seen continuous heavy rains with such force, as the floods besieged the villages, flooded many homes, and swept away farms."

The Executive Unit in the districts of Hays and Al-Khawkhah in Hodeidah Governorate sent an urgent appeal for relief to those affected by the torrential rains, and the Director of the Executive Unit, Jamal Mashari, said, “The torrents and floods caused severe damage to the camps, housing of the displaced, and their property, damage to the infrastructure and farms, and the death of livestock.”
