A recent international report confirmed that about half of Yemen's population will suffer from food insecurity during the coming year, due to the ongoing conflict, displacement, the collapse of the local currency, and the deterioration of purchasing power.

This came in the joint report issued the day before yesterday by the organizations: FAO, UNICEF, World Food Program, World Health Organization, in addition to the World Bank ( WB ) and the Capacity Assessment Project Organization ( ACAPS ).

“Around 17.1 million people (about 49% of the population) are expected to be in crisis-level food insecurity ( IPC Phase 3 ) or worse, in most Yemeni governorates over the next year, and will be in dire need of urgent food assistance,” said the Joint Monitoring Report, a bi-monthly update to monitor the risks of the food and nutrition security crisis in Yemen.

He pointed out that the population that will suffer from food insecurity is distributed between 12.4 million people living in the governorates under the control of the Houthis and 4.7 million others in areas under the influence of the internationally recognized government.
