The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) has led the creation of a new entity called the Hadhramaut Tribal Alliance, following a dispute between the alliance's leader, Sheikh Amr bin Habrish, and STC leader Aidarous al-Zubaidi. The alliance's spokesman described the move as an attempt to fragment and monopolize Hadhramaut's power.

"Hadhramaut belongs to all its people and its representation is not limited to a tribe or a single person. It can be represented by its tribal and civil symbols. No one has the right to claim that. What has happened and is happening in terms of actions by Sheikh Amr bin Ali bin Habrish and his monopolization of fateful decisions is a violation of the principles, goals and documents of the alliance," the STC supporters said in a statement on behalf of the alliance following a meeting in Al-Ayoun.

The statement issued by the newly formed entity announced "withdrawal of confidence from Sheikh Amr bin Habrish al-Aliyi as president of the alliance, due to the expiry of the term specified in the founding documents and his violation of the alliance's goals and principles." They added that "all his actions represent only his own, and he bears full responsibility for them."

The attendees approved the formation of a committee to prepare for a general conference of all tribes, positions, and sheikhs to select and announce a president for the alliance and a presidency from among its members, activate institutional work, and participate in decision-making in accordance with the internal regulations and founding documents.

In contrast, the spokesman for the Hadhramaut Tribal Alliance, Al-Kaash Saeed Al-Saeedi, accused the Transitional Council and the local authorities of being behind these movements and cloning an entity bearing the same name.

Al-Saeedi told Yemen Youth Net that the new entity aims to fragment the Hadrami force adopted by the Hadrami Tribal Alliance, headed by Sheikh Amr bin Habrish, and seize control of Hadramout and place it under the control of those forces.

He added, "The alliance and its leadership reject these actions and methods that make Hadhramaut subservient to these parties," emphasizing that Hadhramaut cannot be subservient but must have its own weight in the political equation in Yemen.

He continued: "Hadhramaut provides the Yemeni state with 75% of its resources, in addition to its vast area and historical, cultural and economic heritage. It is the locomotive of Yemen and the cornerstone of the balance between north and south Yemen."

Aidarous al-Zubaidi had visited Hadramaut Governorate a few days earlier and delivered a speech in which he accused the Hadramaut Tribal Alliance of collaborating with the Houthi militia and al-Qaeda. This prompted Ibn Habrish to issue harsh statements against the Presidential Council, before announcing the postponement of a meeting of the Tribal Alliance scheduled for last Wednesday following an official invitation from Saudi Arabia.

Ibn Habrish said that the Hadhramaut Tribal Alliance does not recognize the President of the Presidential Leadership Council or its members, and will not welcome their visit to Hadhramaut unless the people of the province are empowered to exercise their legitimate rights as partners in power and wealth.

Following the media exchanges between Al-Zubaidi and Bin Habrish, Bin Habrish visited Saudi Arabia and met with Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman, while Al-Zubaidi returned to the UAE.
