Cairo.. Al-Alimi and Al-Sisi discuss international navigation security in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden

Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council Rashad Al-Alimi discussed with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi the security of international navigation in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, in light of the Houthi militia's continued attacks on cargo ships and their repercussions on Egyptian interests.

This came during a meeting between them, yesterday, Monday, on the sidelines of the 12th session of the World Urban Forum in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, according to the Yemeni News Agency (Saba).

According to the agency, the talks touched on bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries and issues of common interest, as well as developments in the Yemeni affair, the situation in the region and its economic and security repercussions, including developments in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, and efforts aimed at reducing escalation, restoring stability, and the security of international navigation.

Al-Alimi briefed his Egyptian counterpart on "the latest developments in regional and international mediation efforts to launch a political process under the auspices of the United Nations, in light of the intransigence of the terrorist Houthi militias supported by the Iranian regime, stressing the government's openness to various initiatives to bring peace to the country on the basis of the references for a comprehensive solution agreed upon nationally, regionally and internationally, especially Resolution 2216."

President Al-Alimi praised the Egyptian position in support of the Presidential Leadership Council, the Yemeni government and people, and their aspirations to restore state institutions, peace, stability and development.

For his part, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi affirmed Egypt's position in support of the unity and stability of Yemen, and its support for international efforts aimed at reaching a comprehensive political solution in the country, in light of the importance of Yemen's security and stability to Egypt, in addition to its important role linked to the security of the Arab region and the Red Sea region, especially in light of the tense security situation in the region.

Recently, Egypt announced, through its Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aati, in a meeting with the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization, Arsenio Dominguez, that its economy has suffered about 6 billion dollars as a result of the repercussions of the attacks launched by the terrorist Houthi militia on cargo ships in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab for about a year.

Since last November, the Iran-backed Houthi militia has been launching drone and missile attacks on cargo ships sailing in the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandab and the Gulf of Aden off the coast of Yemen, saying it is in support of Gaza, which has been subjected to a devastating Israeli war since October 7.

These attacks negatively affected shipping, trade and global supply chains, as many companies resorted to longer routes for safety, and also harmed the economies of the Red Sea countries, especially Egypt.
