The Yemeni government welcomed the sanctions imposed by the United States of America on the Houthi militia's Prisoners Committee and its head, Abdul Qader Al-Murtada.
Information Minister Muammar Al-Eryani said in a statement on the X platform that the decision is "an important step towards holding accountable the criminals whose hands are stained with the blood of innocents and who committed the most heinous crimes and violations against the Yemenis."
He added, "The Yemenis inside the Houthi militia's prisons were subjected to the most heinous forms of psychological and physical torture, including (electric shock, starvation, physical assaults, solitary confinement, and even slow killing). The militia did not stop at these practices against the detainees, but rather turned the "Prisoners' Committee" into a tool for torturing them, forcibly disappearing them, and blackmailing their families."
Al-Eryani stressed that international silence is no longer acceptable in the face of the brutality of the Houthi militia that threatens regional and international security, and that the decision to include the so-called Abdul Qader Al-Murtada on the terrorist list should be the beginning, as we are facing a critical moment that requires strict measures to stop its ongoing crimes since its brutal coup against the state.
The Yemeni minister called on the international community to take deterrent measures against the Houthi militia, and to begin classifying it as a "global terrorist group", and to prosecute its leaders before international criminal courts for the crimes and violations they committed against the Yemeni people, and to ensure that they do not escape punishment.
Yesterday, Monday, the US Treasury announced the imposition of sanctions on the Houthi militia’s Prisoners’ Committee and its head, Abdul Qader Al-Murtada, for their involvement in violations against prisoners held in prisons run by the Houthis in Yemen.
