The World Health Organization announced a Saudi contribution of $14.1 million to support efforts to combat cholera and malaria in Yemen, as part of the ongoing partnership between the organization and the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Action.

The announcement came during the activities of the Fourth Riyadh International Humanitarian Forum, on Tuesday, which was hosted by the Saudi capital on February 24 and 25, organized by the King Salman Center, where the forum witnessed the signing of the grant agreement between the two parties.

According to a statement by the World Health Organization, $12 million of this contribution will be allocated to enhance preventive and therapeutic measures to combat malaria, while $2.1 million will be directed to expand the response to the cholera epidemic, by improving treatment methods and enhancing preventive measures in the most affected and vulnerable areas.

Hanan Balkhi, WHO Regional Director, stressed the importance of this partnership, noting that “KSrelief is an invaluable partner in supporting humanitarian efforts, having helped millions in Yemen, the occupied Palestinian territories, Syria, and other areas affected by humanitarian crises.”

This contribution comes as an extension of the humanitarian role played by Saudi Arabia in supporting the health sector in Yemen, as part of its efforts to enhance the response to epidemics and improve health conditions in the most needy areas.
