A new UN report says Yemen's food insecurity crisis has reached record levels, with continued economic deterioration, lack of income opportunities and funding shortages.
“The food security situation in Yemen continues to deteriorate, with data released by WFP in July showing record levels of severe food deprivation across the country,” the World Food Programme ( WFP ) said in a new report on the “Food Security Situation in Yemen” in July.
He added that 17 million Yemenis suffer from food insecurity in the third and fourth phases of the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification, including 6.1 million in the emergency phase.
The report indicated that 3.5 million people across the country suffer from severe malnutrition.
Yemen has been witnessing a war that has been ongoing for ten years, which has left the worst humanitarian crisis in the world, with about two-thirds of the population in need of assistance to survive, according to UN reports.
