The Republic of Yemen expressed its strong condemnation of the Israeli entity’s adoption of laws that prohibit the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) from carrying out its humanitarian activities and work.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a brief statement, "These practices represent arbitrariness and a new undermining of the principles and laws of humanitarian work and have extremely serious humanitarian consequences in increasing the suffering of the Palestinian people."

The statement called on the international community and the UN Security Council to put an end to these daily practices and crimes by declaring an immediate ceasefire that guarantees the security, stability and legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, in accordance with the two-state solution, the Arab Peace Initiative and international resolutions and charters.

On Monday, the Israeli Knesset finally approved the ban on UNRWA activities in the occupied Palestinian territories.

UNRWA was established by a resolution of the United Nations General Assembly in 1949, and was mandated to provide assistance and protection to Palestine refugees in its five areas of operation: Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

UNRWA provides relief, health and educational services to Palestinian refugees in its five areas of operation: the West Bank, including Jerusalem, the Gaza Strip, Syria, Lebanon and Jordan.

The Palestinians' need for UNRWA services is growing amid a "genocidal" war waged by Israel, with American support, on Gaza since October 7, 2023.
