A Yemeni archaeologist revealed that an ancient manuscript will be put up for sale at an auction in the British capital, London, tomorrow, Thursday.
Researcher Abdullah Mohsen stated in a post on his Facebook page that “a manuscript of part of the Holy Qur’an from Yemen will be sold at the end of this month, October 31, 2024, at Mayfair Auction House in the capital of fog.”
He mentioned the specifications of the manuscript, which includes (on page 18 lines in bold black Naskh script, golden circles in the shape of flowers between the verses, an ornate golden decorative shape for every five verses, multi-coloured decorative golden circles on the margin, the titles of the surahs in golden Thuluth script, a repaired and decorated brown leather cover).
The archaeological and historical cities in Yemen have been subjected to looting and random excavation throughout the past periods, which increased in intensity during the war years, as Yemeni antiquities were subjected to smuggling, systematic destruction, and sale in public auctions around the world and on the Internet.
Recently, the Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Muammar Al-Eryani, called for holding an international conference to support the Yemeni government’s efforts to preserve and protect antiquities, accusing the Iranian-backed Houthi militia of systematically destroying all aspects of life in Yemen, including archaeological and heritage sites and museums.
