Europa League: Manchester United, Tottenham, and Lyon reach the quarter-finals

Manchester United, Tottenham, Eintracht Frankfurt, and Athletic Bilbao qualified for the Europa League quarter-finals on Thursday.

Manchester United defeated Real Sociedad 4-1 on Thursday in the second leg of the Europa League Round of 16.

The match witnessed three penalty kicks (two of which were awarded to the winner), allowing Bruno Fernandes' teammates to advance to the next round.

Orizbal opened the scoring for the visitors from a penalty kick in the 10th minute, before Bruno Fernandes equalized from another penalty kick in the 16th minute.

Manchester United needed the referee to review the video technology before awarding them a second penalty kick, which Fernandes successfully executed (50), and the same player then added the third goal in the final minutes (87).

Dalot completed his team's four goals, securing qualification thanks to the result of the second leg, after a 1-1 draw in the first leg.

The match witnessed the expulsion of the Venezuelan substitute, Aramburu, from the losing team's lineup in the 63rd minute.

Manchester United will face French side Lyon in the quarter-finals after the latter renewed their 4-0 win over Romanian side FC SAS.

Tottenham qualifies with difficulty

Tottenham Hotspur narrowly beat Dutch side AZ Alkmaar 3-1 in the second leg of the Europa League Round of 16.

Tottenham made up for their 1-0 first-leg defeat to AZ Alkmaar thanks to the brilliance of Odobert, who scored a brace in the match.

The French player opened the scoring for Tottenham (26) before Maddison added the second goal (48).

Koopmeiners reduced the deficit in the 63rd minute, but Odobert scored his second goal and his team's third in the 74th minute.

Tottenham will next play Eintracht Frankfurt, who renewed their 4-1 victory over visiting Ajax, having won the first leg 2-1.

Eintracht Frankfurt had no difficulty in deciding the match after Frenchman Bahoya opened the scoring in the seventh minute.

Gotze strengthened his team's lead in the twenty-fifth minute before the Frenchman Ekitike added the third goal (67).

Gotze returned to confirm his ability to provide high levels with Eintracht Frankfurt by adding his second goal and the fourth for his team (82).

Italian club Lazio qualified for the quarter-finals after a 1-1 home draw with Czech club Viktoria Plzen, building on their 2-1 first-leg victory. They will now face Norwegian club Bodo Glimt, who advanced to the same round despite losing 2-1 to hosts Olympiacos, following a 3-0 first-leg victory.

Athletic Bilbao knocks out Roma

Spanish club Athletic Bilbao made up for the disappointment of the first leg by defeating visiting Italian club Roma 3-1, qualifying for the quarter-finals after overcoming a 2-1 first-leg defeat.

Nicholas Williams was the undisputed star of the match after scoring a brace that led Bilbao to victory in a match that saw Hummels sent off early from Roma (11).

Williams scored the home side's opening goal in the 45+3rd minute before Yuri added the second goal (68).

Williams decided the match in the final minutes when he scored his second goal and the third for his team (82).

Roma narrowed the gap in the final moments with Paredes' goal from a penalty kick in the 90+2nd minute.
