The Kuwait Football Association announced the resignation of the association's board of directors from their positions after the end of investigations into the failure to organize the match between the Kuwaiti national team and its Iraqi guest, last Tuesday, within the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

The Kuwait Football Association said in a statement: "The resignation of the council was submitted, headed by Haif Al-Mutairi, the acting chairman of the council, the vice chairman Ahmed Aqla, and the members Mansour Pasha, Jamal Al-Otaibi, and Fatima Hayat."

The resignation of the Board of Directors of the Kuwait Football Association came after the board member, Abdul Aziz Al-Samhan, had previously announced his resignation individually, following the presentation of the results of the investigations into the events that took place during the match between the Kuwaiti national team and its Iraqi counterpart last week.

The Federation's Board of Directors submitted its resignation to the acting Secretary-General, Dr. Saleh Al-Majroub, who is expected to call the Federation's General Assembly for an extraordinary meeting during which the resignation will be approved and a temporary committee will be appointed to manage the Federation's affairs during the coming period.

Kuwaiti newspapers launched a scathing attack on the organizers of the match between the Kuwaiti national team and its Iraqi guest (0-0), which brought them together last Tuesday, as part of the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, describing it as a scandal of poor organization.

The match witnessed fainting cases among the fans due to poor organization, a few months before Kuwait hosted the 26th Gulf Cup, which the Kuwaitis considered a major failure.

The Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Qabas commented on what happened during the match, saying: “A pressing question comes to mind: Are we destined to fail even in organizing the smallest matters? How can a country like Kuwait fail to organize a single match, with a set schedule, known date and location for a long time, and all tickets sold out?!”

After the match, voices were raised calling for the dismissal of all officials responsible for the organization, with the approach of the upcoming Gulf Cup, which will be organized by Kuwait, and studying the reasons for what the Kuwaiti fans described as failure.
