Young English international star Jude Bellingham was sent off with a straight red card during his team Real Madrid's match against host Osasuna on Saturday in the 24th round of the Spanish Football League, but was this expulsion deserved?

Referee Jose Luis Munuera showed Bellingham a red card in the 40th minute after the England international appeared to complain about one of his decisions, before making a gesture with his arms. The two sides exchanged words before the referee showed the red card.

Spanish newspaper Marca reported that referee Munuera told Modric and Real Madrid players that Bellingham had insulted him and told him to "go to hell." Real Madrid players told him that he did not mean him.

On Bellingham's sending off, coach Carlo Ancelotti said in the post-match press conference: "The red card for Bellingham... I think (the referee) did not understand English well. He made a mistake. The translation of 'go to hell' in Spanish is 'don't mess with me', it's nothing... Things have happened in these last three games that everyone has seen, and I don't feel like adding more, because I want to be on the bench in the next game."

Ancelotti continued, "I would like to speak to the referee, not to Bellingham. The latter did nothing to deserve a red card, he did nothing at all, the referee made a mistake in the translation and nothing more."

The Italian coach added, "There were two or three cases that had to be reviewed by the video assistant technology, but unfortunately they were not reviewed."

Regarding the incident of Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham being sent off in the 40th minute, refereeing expert Jamal Al-Sharif said, “The expulsion occurred as a result of the English player uttering bad words towards the referee after he passed by him, which prompted the referee to show him a direct red card. This is shameful behaviour that requires the player to be excluded.”

The royal team, which is intoxicated by its victory over Manchester City in Europe, continues to be absent from victories in the Spanish League for the third consecutive match, after a loss to Espanyol and two draws with Atletico Madrid and Osasuna.
