"Deterrence of Aggression" Frees Hundreds of Detainees and Prisoners from Security Branches and Prisons in Aleppo

Al-Araby Al-Jadeed newspaper said that it obtained information from the "Deterrence of Aggression" operations room, confirming that the Syrian opposition factions were able to free prisoners from security and intelligence branches and prisons affiliated with the Syrian regime in the city of Aleppo, northern Syria.

Military sources working within the "Deterrence of Aggression" operations room told Al-Araby Al-Jadeed on Friday that the factions of the "Deterrence of Aggression" operations room were able to free dozens of detainees and prisoners from the central prison, and Tariq bin Ziyad prison (a school) near Al-Rahman Mosque, in addition to freeing a small number of detainees from the Military Security branch near Al-Ashrafiyah neighborhood, and the Air Force Intelligence branch near Al-A'dhamiyah neighborhood, in the center of Aleppo city.

The sources confirmed that the number of prisoners released so far has reached nearly 300, including women from different Syrian governorates, the majority of whom are from the countryside of Aleppo governorate, and others from the countryside of Idlib, Hama and Homs governorates, noting that a large portion of the political detainees were transferred by the Syrian regime’s security services from Aleppo to other branches affiliated with it in Hama, Homs and Damascus, coinciding with the start of the battle of the Aleppo countryside last Wednesday.

In addition, the Military Operations Department of the "Deterrence of Aggression" Operations Room announced a curfew inside the city of Aleppo starting Friday evening and ending Saturday morning, with the aim of removing mines and combing the city's neighborhoods, in order to preserve the safety of the residents. The sources indicated that the number of Syrian regime forces' prisoners inside the neighborhoods of Aleppo exceeded 50 elements, in conjunction with the continuation of combing operations, in light of Russian-Syrian air strikes targeting the western neighborhoods of Aleppo, in conjunction with the flight of several Russian reconnaissance aircraft in the skies of the region. In the same context, a military source in the regime forces informed Reuters that Aleppo airport was closed and all flights were cancelled.
