A Palestinian opened fire on an Israeli military post in the town of Tayasir, east of Jenin in the West Bank, killing two soldiers and wounding eight.
The Israeli Army Radio said that an armed man infiltrated the military complex near the Tayasir checkpoint in the northern West Bank, and began shooting, and clashes broke out between him and the soldiers.
The radio added that the armed confrontations at the Tayasir checkpoint lasted for minutes before the soldiers were able to eliminate the gunman who was wearing a bulletproof vest.
She explained that the perpetrator of the Tayasir operation had accurate intelligence information about the location, movements and locations of the soldiers.
During the operation, an Israeli Air Force drone flew overhead, but the occupation army decided not to use it for fear of injuring its soldiers inside the military complex.
The Israeli army announced the death of a reserve sergeant and a soldier, and the injury of 8 people, two of whom are in critical condition.
Channel 12 Israel revealed that an initial investigation confirms that the perpetrator of the Tayseer operation stormed the military tower and opened fire on the soldiers from it, while Channel 13 reported that the perpetrator of the operation succeeded in controlling the upper floor of the tower and managing the clash with the soldiers.
For its part, the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation said that an additional force arrived at the scene of the shooting and killed the gunman after clashing with him.
Israeli media reported that the army closed the checkpoint and sent large forces to the area, which is witnessing an Israeli military operation against the Palestinian resistance.
Yedioth Ahronoth reported that the shooting took place near an area where the army is deployed and carrying out military operations.
Hamas and Jihad bless
For its part, the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) said that the Tayasir checkpoint operation is confirmation that the occupation's crimes and aggression against the northern occupied West Bank will not go unpunished.
Hamas added that "the occupation's ongoing crimes against our people in the West Bank and its camps in Jenin, Tulkarm and Tubas will not weaken its resolve." It called for escalating the clashes with the occupation and its settlers in the West Bank.
In turn, the Islamic Jihad Movement praised the "heroic qualitative operation in the Tayasir area", and said that it was "an affirmation of our people's resistance and their insistence on confronting the crimes of the occupation."
Since January 21, the Israeli army has launched a military operation in the city of Jenin and its camp, before expanding its aggression to include the city of Tulkarm (north), which led to the martyrdom of about 30 Palestinians.
