The Yemeni Gas Company - Safer confirmed, on Friday, the doubling of efforts to cover the local market's needs for gas and ensure its stability, especially with the approach of the holy month of Ramadan, calling on the competent authorities to monitor roads, border crossings and beaches.

In a statement, the company called on the competent authorities to cooperate with the company and its representatives and delegates in the liberated governorates in activating supervision, inspection, and field visits and proving any violations related to the supply, marketing, and sale of gas, so that legal measures can be taken against any violator.

The statement denied what was published on some social media sites and a number of news sites about the illegal storage and trade of gas, as well as its smuggling abroad, which caused a crisis in domestic gas.

She stressed that the company distributes the quantities of domestic gas produced from Safer according to the distribution and control mechanisms approved by it, as the quantities produced are distributed to the governorates of the Republic within the framework of an accurate supply plan that is updated annually according to the population density of each governorate and according to the available capabilities, taking into account the circumstances of displacement due to the conditions the country is going through and any emergency circumstances.

The Yemeni Gas Company indicated that the phenomenon of monopolizing gas and selling it on the black market or smuggling it abroad is being combated according to the jurisdiction of the relevant state agencies, local authorities in the governorates, and judicial control agencies, indicating that it carries out its work as a government service facility that has no control capacity.

The company called on the competent authorities, in cooperation with the company’s representatives, to monitor the roads, border crossings and beaches, to investigate the legality of transporting or possessing domestic gas and the extent to which the company’s shipment documents and data are consistent, and to detect any violations that affect the stability of the local market in marketing domestic gas in accordance with the applicable laws, decisions and instructions issued by the company.

For days, the liberated governorates, especially Taiz Governorate, have been witnessing a stifling crisis in domestic gas and vehicle gas, while activists circulated pictures showing tanks on board a ship, which they said were for gas smuggling operations taking place across the Yemeni coast to neighboring countries.
