A 35-year-old woman was killed when a landmine left behind by the terrorist Houthi militia exploded in the Nihm district, east of the capital, Sana'a.
The Shahed Organization for Human Rights said in a statement that the citizen (Aisha Naji Al-Qash’a - 35 years old) was killed yesterday, Friday, after a landmine exploded while she was herding sheep in the Jabal Al-Qarn area near her village of Masoura in the Nihm District of Sana’a Governorate.
The organization stated that the explosion caused the victim's body to be torn to pieces and she died immediately, while her daughter and uncle suffered psychological shock as a result of the incident, which they survived.
The organization indicated that this incident is not the first, as the Nehm District is witnessing a continuous series of violations as a result of the spread of landmines planted by the Houthi group since its control of the district in 2015, and the completion of extending its influence over all its regions on January 20, 2020.
The organization confirmed that it documented the killing and injury of 113 civilians, including women and children, in the directorate, until the end of 2024, as a result of Houthi mine explosions.
The Shuhod Organization held the Houthi group fully responsible for the continued fall of victims as a result of its failure to take any measures to remove mines or hand over their maps to the competent authorities, stressing that these mines continue to threaten the lives of civilians, farmers and shepherds, and cause serious damage to the population and their property.
The organization demanded that the Houthi group be obligated to reveal the locations of the mines and hand over their maps, and to form specialized international teams to remove them, in addition to holding accountable those responsible for planting them, and providing the necessary support to the victims and their families, including financial compensation and health care.
The organization called on the international community and human rights organizations to exert pressure to force the Houthi group to hand over mine maps and allow demining teams, under the supervision of the United Nations, to carry out urgent clearance operations, to preserve the safety of civilians and end their ongoing suffering.
